Clinics

UCSF and VHIO students have facilitated two monthly clinics since 2007: Mt. Zion Clinic and Chinatown Public Health Center (CPHC) Clinic. Starting in February 2011, VHIO started providing volunteer interpreters for a mammogram clinic and a hepatitis clinic by Korean Community Health Services (KCHS) in Oakland to serve Korean speaking patients. The two clinics each take place once a month.

Please also refer to our other events on our Events page and Google Calendar for other events besides our regular clinics.

San Francisco Hepatitis B Collaborative (SFHBC) Clinics

VHIO Berkeley volunteers attend two permanent SFHBC clinic sites each month, serving as interpreters between health providers and monolingual patients as well as hepatitis B educators.

UCSF Medical Center Mt. Zion Campus
2330 Post Street at Divisadero
1st Saturday of each month
9am-12pm

Chinatown Public Health Center
1490 Mason Street at Broadway
2nd Saturday of each month
9am-12pm

VHIO volunteers may sign up for SFHBC clinics by filling out the sign-up forms that we send out 1-2 weeks before clinics. Selection to participate in a clinic depends on (1) first come first serve (2) language needs at the clinic and (3) priority for members who signed up last month but were not selected

Partners in D Clinics

Partners in D is a UCSF School of Pharmacy project in which student pharmacists hold outreach clinics at a variety of settings such as senior homes. Student pharmacists review patients’ medications and help to lower costs by assisting patients in enrolling in and managing their Medicare Part D plan. VHIO provides interpreters to these clinics, whose dates can be found on the Events page. Interpreters are needed for Chinese, Vietnamese, and Spanish. Most clinics are on weekends or late afternoon on weekdays, and they take place in San Francisco or the East Bay.

Project Brown Bag Clinics

Project Brown Bag is another UCSF School of Pharmacy organization that hold clinics, and VHIO helps to provide interpretation services. The goal Project Brown Bag is to provide a service where pharmacists counsel individual patients on their medications and address any concerns patients may have regarding their medications. Their focus is to target the underserved populations in San Francisco, where individuals may lack interaction with pharmacists due to limitations in mobility and/or language barriers. The clinic dates are posted on the Events page.

Korean Community Health Services (KCHS) Clinics

KCHS is a new community health clinic for the underserved, limited-English proficient Korean immigrants in Oakland. Their services include hepatitis B clinics, mammogram clinics, prostate cancer screenings, and other community health-oriented events. KCHS is looking for volunteers to help with patient registration, interpretation, and possibly help managing some of their programs. VHIO mainly provide registration and interpretation services to patients at clinics. Volunteers can expand their role if they wish to become more involved.

Satellite Housing

Satellite Housing is an organization providing affordable housing to under-served communities, and they hold a number of clinics and educational presentations for their residents. Most clinics are in San Francisco or the East Bay, and they take place on weekdays. Approximately 2 Chinese interpreters are needed for each clinic. An example of a clinic is the foot clinic, in which a nurse checks patients’ feet for complications from diabetes.
